Facts about our King
• Born on Jan 22, 1962, in Kuala Terengganu.
• Received his early education in Sultan Sulaiman Primary School and Sultan Sulaiman Secondary School.
• Pursued higher education at the Geelong Grammar School in Australia.
• Spent a year at the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, England, and became an honorary lieutenant.
• Obtained his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from the US International University Europe in London in 1988.
• Appointed Regent of Terengganu on Nov 6, 1979.
• Married Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Nur Zahirah on March 28, 1996, and has four children.
• Became the 16th Sultan of Terengganu on May 15, 1998, following the death of his father Sultan Mahmud.
• Served as Deputy Yang di-Pertuan Agong on two previous occasions – from April 28, 1999, to Dec 12, 2001, to Sultan of Selangor Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah; and from Dec 13, 2001, to Dec 12, 2006, to Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Tuanku Syed. Putra Jamalullail.
