S’wak to get RM5bil for rural development

ASAJAYA: The Government has allocated RM5bil for development projects in Sarawak under the Rural Basic Infrastructure (RBI) NKRA, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal. He said most of the projects involved the supply of electricity, water and construction of roads as part of the Government's effort to improve the quality of life of the people in the state. Shafie said that the Government had never marginalised rural folks, pointing out that the development projects are mostly located in rural areas. He added that the Government had also provided an allocation of RM13,500 per hectare of land for those interested in the rubber and oil palm replanting project. Shafie said this during the launch of the Rural Areas Electricity Supply project in Kampung Rangwan, Sadong Jaya on April 8, which was part of the GTP's RBI NKRA. Two hundred and seventy-eight houses in the village received electricity as part of the project.
